My Students

My class is a mix of six autistic students, who are both verbal and non verbal, who also happen to be amazing (check out my talented student's artwork)! Despite their disabilities, they come to school everyday with a smile on their face and excitement in their eyes. As you may know, autism has a wide spectrum, requiring differentiated instruction. While a tool or prop might be appropriate for one student, it might not be appropriate for the entire class. My students learn best with the help of visuals and manipulatives and doing this while social distancing will be an evolving challenge.

Our school is located in a high needs, low income area where educational resources are not accessible.

Having students with autism requires more visual resources than are supplied to us. Gaining access to different resources will benefit my students, helping them to make sense of the more restrictive conditions they find themselves in.

My Project

When returning to school, autistic children, especially in the younger grades, need visuals and books to help them process and accept what is going on around them. The books that I have ordered, along with a class iPad, will help my students make sense of this new normal.

Due to the pandemic, I taught my students remotely from March - August, and I’m so excited to resume in person!

Budgetary restrictions have eliminated the purchase of needed supplies. Your help will keep my classroom environment clean and my students engaged and motivated to learn.
