This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Stephen King writes "Books are uniquely portable magic." Shopping for a book will give our struggling, unmotivated students their inner magic. Our students are yearning to find their spark, this is our chance to ignite a generation of readers and their love of books, their magic.
Do you want to help give inner-city children a chance at reading success?
Our school serves 100 bright fourth graders. Over 99% of our student population receives free and reduced-price lunch.
Our school and their homes have limited resources to help bolster education and motivation in our students. We are hoping to fund Barnes and Noble gift cards to help instill a lifelong love of reading within our children and YOU can help!
"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book."
Frank Serafini
My Project
By providing the fourth grade team (four different classes) with Barnes and Noble gift cards, you are directly providing these children with a chance to access exciting, brand new books. Due to the state of our school and the neighborhood in which we teach, very few children have had an opportunity to go to a store and pick out a book of their choice. Our students are desperate. As they progress through the grades, their motivation is waning. This can be detrimental to their further progress in school, and unfortunately, in life.
"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all." Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
With your help you will inspire a love of reading.
We are hoping that the freedom to go to a bookstore and pick out several books of their own will increase motivation and instill a lifelong love of reading which our students desperately need.
"There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those we spent with a favorite book." Marcel Proust
