Help me give my students a Chromebook and protective sleeve in order to do a shared project on financial literacy.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Alcaraz's classroom raised $365

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located a few miles away from a large metropolitan city. My students' families are working class and usually, both parents work. The families in our community are very involved and want the best for the children and trust the teachers at our school wholeheartedly.
My students are enthusiastic 6th graders who truly enjoy working in groups, using technology and being creative.
80% of my students are English Language Learners and although they might struggle with academic language and correct grammar usage, they are still very inquisitive and persistent in finding answers.
My Project
Many times our students talk about having the latest cellphone or the newest shoes, but they don't understand what it takes to balance a budget in order to afford those items. My students will use the Chromebook to research average monthly income, learn to create a monthly budget and use Google Sheets to track their spending and create graphs with their information. Students will also create presentations and teach other students about prioritizing their finances and determining what is a need and what is a want. With this projects, students will learn the importance of financial literacy, which can hopefully make a difference in their future.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
