Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like before computers existed? How about when computers first came out, and a majority of us didn't know how to use them? Well most of my students do not have computers at home in an age when computers are as important to our life skills as water is to our bodies.
I teach visual art to over 500 elementary school children each week in a high-need community.
The student body includes general education, special education and English language learners. The students' ages range from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. And 99% of our students are on free lunches.
My Project
My school has no money for art supplies this year for the third year in a row, never mind money for technology. Donors Choose has helped me get the art supplies my students need.
Please now help us get technology into our art room. I am requesting a flat screen computer monitor, a wall mount, a small laptop computer, and a wireless mouse and keyboard. (I have also added some paint that we are in need of.)
How will my students survive in this world without knowing more about technology?
President Obama required that schools that the Federal Government gave money to must implement the Common Core Standards. This requires technology to be a part of our students' daily lives in school. Most of my students don't have computers at home. Please help their dreams come true by getting them used to living with technology in school.
