My students need exposure and access to more books in the classroom. New books spark my students' interest and encourage them to read. We recently received a new reading assessment from the district and need books that are leveled to help teach reading more effectively.
My students are struggling 2nd and 3rd readers that are behind grade level.
Many of my students are English Language Learners or come from a low income family. My goal is to get them to grade level by using great books by the end of the school year. I want to encourage them to read inside and outside of the classroom.
My Project
One way to motivate my students is by using new materials and new books. They get excited to be the first student in school to read a book. The students then like to check out the books and read them with a parent at home. This helps the children and school build a better relationship with their parents by involving them in the learning.
This project is important to me because I believe all children can learn to read.
Also, research shows that it is critical for students to learn to read by the end of 3rd grade to be successful. You can be the one to help a child learn the value and love for reading!
