My Project
I am a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
As an educator committed to fostering an environment of empathy, understanding, and social justice, I would like to bring a carefully curated collection of anti-racist picture books to the students I serve.
I recently attended a conference called the Oakland Literacy Symposium, and the theme this year was Literacy and Justice, for All. I had the pleasure of hearing Sonja Cherry Paul speak and felt pushed to order a copy of her newest PD book, "AntiRacist Reading Revolution".
In AntiRacist Reading Revolution, a collection of texts is highlighted that showcases diverse voices, stories, and perspectives aimed at empowering children to think critically about race, bias, and justice. These books are essential tools for teaching young learners to recognize and challenge racism while celebrating the richness of diverse cultures and experiences.
The books featured in the AntiRacist Reading Revolution are not just stories — they are windows into the lived experiences of others, and mirrors for children to see themselves reflected in a society that values kindness, equity, and inclusion.
What is great about this book is it provides a framework, and creates plans to teach the books to the class. However, in order to bring these vital texts to life for my students, I need help. I am seeking funds to receive the picture books outlined in her book, which will be used to support lessons and discussions around race, diversity, and anti-racism.
Thankfully, I have always been a collector of these texts, and I have tons of the picture books already mentioned!
By donating, you'll be helping to create a classroom where all children feel seen, heard, and valued, and where they are equipped with the tools to become advocates for a more just and inclusive world!
