This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are amazing! They work hard both inside and outside of the classroom. For the first time this year, our school has opted to provide students recess after lunch. This time is crucial to help student interact with one another in a low-stakes environment. During recess students learn how to be "kids" again; they learn to create games, set rules, work together, and ultimately have fun. These skills directly transfer into the classroom and help improve learning.
Recess is essential for student skill development.
Students are often in front of a screen for the majority of their school day. They need a physical, emotional, and mental health break! During recess, students are able to exercise and get out some of their accrued energy. Since this is our first year having recess at school, we do not have materials for students to use. This project is seeking a variety of balls, cones, and nets that will be utilized by students during recess. The opportunities for social emotional learning and creativity are endless!
The materials in this project will allow my students to participate in recess in a positive manner. They will also help establish a positive learning environment and enhance the overall climate of our school. They will particularly help break down barriers for my bilingual, ELL, and special education students!
