Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Special Ed. reading, grades 6-8. My school has limited resources and is unable to help me purchase books and computer programs to help catch my students up on their reading levels.
My students are typically 3-5 years behind where they should be for reading. Because they struggle with reading, a lot of times they say they "hate reading." I am trying to collect some resources to turn that mentality around.
Computer programs and games focused on phonics and reading will help my students grow their reading skills so they can start to pick up higher level books with ease. For students that are still low-level readers, I will be able to supplement their computer work with some treasured favorites from classic authors like Seuss, Silverstein, and others.
We all know how important reading is to the success of children in school and beyond. Please help me gain access to the supplies that will help my students learn to love reading.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
