Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My school is a title 1 school in a low income area with 100% of our students receiving free lunch.
My kindergartners walk into my classroom everyday with so much energy and excitement to learn despite facing various obstacles economically.
Our school is ethnically diverse and majority of our population speaks Spanish and are English Language learners. We also have a large population of students who have disabilities such as speech, physical impairments, learning disabilities and autism.
This project will allow me to provide my students will various materials that will not only facilitate their educational growth, but provide an engaging and fun learning environment. These materials will help me to create centers and areas of the room where my students can practice concepts and skills on their own and with their classmates.
Help me make Kindergarten fun again!
Help me provide my students with differentiated activities that can appeal to multiple learning styles, such as tactile, auditory and visual. Every student has different needs and learning styles. Therefore, it is important to provide my students with a variety of centers that cater to their interests and learning styles. For example, Play-Doh will be used as a center to reinforce letter formation, number formation and shapes. Another center will help reinforce sight word recognition using a fun fishing game. If you make it a game kids will have fun and the fact that they are learning is a bonus!
In addition, these materials can help support students that have learning disabilities and are English Language Learners. My students are diverse and unique in their own way and that is why they need a multitude of activities that can cater to their individual needs.
