Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello from Staten Island, New York. I am a second year general education teacher who will be moving to the third grade with my class. We are your typical class of intrigued, motivated, curious, and intelligent eight year old students. Our school is a title one school where a large population qualifies for free lunch services.
A typical Thursday afternoon in our room usually consists of journal writing and sharing,(students select their topics), phonics activities, review of editing/punctuation marks, and the occasional crayon in the pencil sharpening. I work daily to create a differentiated environment where the students feel safe, encouraged, and challenged within their academic ability. I feel that I will need to implement new materials into our daily lessons as we continue our journey to the next grade together.
Our class will benefit daily from a teaching easel. The easel will assist in my lessons throughout the day. I will be able to use the easel during my reading, writing, and math lessons. The white board is a cleaner and more modern alternative to the chalkboards of the past. Students will be able to practice their handwriting/script on the lined side of the easel. Students will be able to record responses on the easel. The magnetic feature of the easel will help to hold shared writing and reading materials in place during our activities. Students will be able to utilize magnetic letters to create new words and study word families. Students will also gain a sense of responsibility by maintaining and organizing classroom supplies on the easel.
Thank you in advance for any effort you may make in helping me create an enriched environment for the class. The students will benefit greatly from a white board easel.
