My Project

My name is Dana Rundberg and I am a Social Studies teacher and club leader and member of the DEI committee. I teach at an underfunded Title I residential school on Long Island, NY, that serves predominantly black and Hispanic special needs students from NYC and Long Island. Many of our students are orphans and are struggling with making positive choices in their lives. Our students come from extremely impoverished conditions and have difficult lives. I teach 9th-grade social studies and run an after-school Debate club. I plan to use these Nintendo Switch consoles as an incentive for free time to motivate them to work harder in class, promote equity, and develop better cooperation skills.

Having these consoles to use as an incentive will motivate my students to complete their assignments and display appropriate behavior.

They will earn time playing these games. It will also enable high school kids to mentor middle school kids in the after-school club fostering inclusivity and positive relationships.

For a lot of these kids, they do not have access to anything like this in their lives and this will allow them to experience things more privileged children take for granted and help them achieve more equity.
