Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently teach first grade at a Title I school on the Southside of Chicago. I have 28 students enrolled in my classroom. The students mostly come from low-income homes and according to the Illinois State Board of Education 98% of the students at my school were considered low-income in 2010.
Help, we are in desperate need of a HP computer for our classroom!
Currently, we do not have any computers in our classroom!
My students can use these computers to learn about any subject, we can use it for writing, literacy, math, social studies, science and art.
My Project
The HP computer will benefit my students in so many ways! The majority of my students are ELL (English Language Learners) students, which means that they are beginners in the English language. This computer would be great because it would help them learn English by providing many visuals. Visuals are some of the best tools for teaching ELL students.
Also, the HP computer would be a great addition for our classroom because it would provide my students with technology. Since I teach at an inner city school that is overcrowded the first extracurricular programs to be eliminated from our school were the computer classes, so now my students are not being exposed to technology in any aspect! They do not have computers at school or home and the “neighborhood” library which has computers is too far away! Just because my students are poor does not mean that they should not have the access or the opportunities to learn and interact with technology like wealthier students have.
