Help Kinders Swim with the Fishies:Make a Memory of Monterey
My students need a class trip for 100 students to participate in hands-on learning at Monterey Bay Aquarium. This entrance fee for this trip has been waived by the aquarium, but my students need help for the bus cost.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of my kindergarten students have never seen the ocean. Many haven't even seen a fish any bigger than a pet goldfish. As a new teacher at an under resourced school, I haven't had the privilege of bringing my students on any adventurous field trips. There simply isn't enough funding.
I am writing this proposal because I know that a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium will have a strong impact on the way my students view school and the joys associated with learning.
At the time of the field trip our students will be in the middle of a language arts thematic unit titled, "By the Sea". This field trip would truly reinforce the power of thematic units by allowing students to apply what they will have been reading and writing about to a real hands-on experience.
Monterey Bay Aquarium is like an educational Disneyland. Last year a very generous donor was able to fund this trip for the entire kindergarten grade level. Now, nearly a year later when I ask these first graders what they remember most about kindergarten, their eyes light up as they remind me of our trip to the aquarium.
We have worked very hard this year to raise funds for this field trip, and we have raised enough money to cover the majority of the cost. Your help would ensure that this dream would become a reality.
This experience would be gift that these children will hold in their hearts and minds forever. The students, parents, and teachers would like to thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
