My Project

Help my Kindergarteners experience growing their own food indoors with a hydroponic tower garden. We have attempted to grow plants in our classroom in the past with little success and need a growing system that provides the correct amount of light to successfully grow plants.

Many of our students have not been exposed to gardening and do not have the resources to grow and harvest fresh fruit or vegetables at home.

This hydroponic growing system would help them learn how to grow their own food successfully and bring to life our learning about the life cycle of plants. This amazing resource will allow us to grow fresh fruit and vegetables year-round, unaffected by weather, and facilitate sustainable agriculture.

Researchers at St. Louis University found that children were twice as likely to eat five servings of fruit and vegetables per day when the produce was homegrown. Through the experience provided with this growing system, we project our students will be more likely to want to eat the fruits and vegetables produced because they will have vested care in the process of growing them.
