This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Kindergarteners are curious, imaginative, and just beginning their journey as readers. Many of them are holding their very first books in our classroom, and the excitement they feel is magical. I am the reading specialist in a diverse, high-needs community, and for many of them, access to books at home is limited.

This National Literacy Month, I want to give each child their very own copy of Sneezy the Snowman by Maureen Wright—a joyful and engaging story that's perfect for emerging readers.

Its repetitive structure and clear storyline make it an ideal resource for building early literacy in an interactive and memorable way. Sneezy the Snowman helps young learners master key kindergarten reading skills like sequencing and retelling, and it is a classroom favorite every year. Owning a personal copy will allow students to revisit the story again and again at home.

When students have books of their own, it builds pride, ownership, and a love for reading that lasts well beyond the school day. Your donation will help put a high-quality, beloved book into the hands of every child in our kindergarten classrooms—something they can cherish, read with their families, and build their own home libraries with.
