Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

More and more, today's children are spending their free time with video game controls and television remotes, rather than playing outside. What I've noticed about my Kindergartners is that they have really strong thumbs! I want to give them the chance to develop strong bodies, as well. For many of my students, the only time they will spend exercising is during the school day. However, as the emphasis at schools becomes more academic, funds for physical education equipment are becoming more and more limited. Please help me provide equipment that my students can use for movement, play and exercise. My school district has given me a P. E. guide with many wonderful activities and games designed for my 5 year olds. However, I do not have the necessary equipment for many of the activities in the guide. I am asking for walking stilts, a parachute, a parachute activity book, and a parachute activity CD from the Lakeshore Learning Company. The walking stilts will help the students focus on balance and improve eye/hand/foot coordination. The parachute and activity CDs will give the children the opportunity for noncompetitive, cooperative play. It will help them strengthen their shoulder, arm and hand muscles, refine motor skills, and develop a sense of rhythm. The games the children will play with these items will strengthen their bodies and improve their health, but in a fun, non-threatening way. This equipment will be shared by seven classrooms, with Kindergarten and preschool students. The students include both English and non-English speakers, as well as students with disabilities. The equipment is durable and will serve hundreds of students in the years to come. My school, Germain St. Elementary, is a multi-cultural, public school set in the San Fernando Valley. Please help me provide this wonderful equipment for my students!
