This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My creative kids need new art opportunities! I am a visual arts teacher in a public school in Bronx N.Y and have amazing middle school students.
Our school is in a very low socioeconomic neighborhood.
My students struggle to have necessitates let alone "extras". They are extremely creative and love to create all types of art. Generally, they ask to take home basic supplies so they can create art at home. Giving my students access to different materials and art media is important because many of them do not have access to outside art making.
Receiving these canvases and wooden pieces would give my students an opportunity to create art using a different technique. My goal is to create a unit around abstract relief. We will study artists who create reliefs and then they will use the wood to create a layered relief in abstract form. I can't wait to challenge my students with this unit and see their creativity flourish.
