This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are proud of their urban community but are faced with several obstacles both in and out of the classroom. Many of my students have very little opportunity for enriching life experiences, and they enjoy being in a classroom, which provides them with a sense of structure, continuity, and safety.
My students thrive when challenged and are eager to succeed, but some do not have the means outside of school.
My students are wildly creative, inquisitive, and spontaneous. They like to move. They love to do hands-on activities, and they crave positive reinforcement.
Many of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their household income. From the moment they walk into my classroom, I try my best to focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire my learners to challenge themselves.
My Project
Math and science notebooks, CHECK! Amazing 5th grade brains bursting with good vibes, CHECK! Rigorous and engaging lesson plans written by yours truly, CHECK! Something to write with...maybe? My students utilize their incredible mathematical reasoning and scientific minds on a daily basis. However, if they don't have something to write with, then what? Our dry erase marker supply is running low but have no fear, YOU CAN HELP!
A fresh and fabulous classroom supply of new dry erase markers, marker erasers and dry erase pouches for math and science activities and centers will allow my students to express their creative thoughts and insight.
Help me give my mathematicians and scientists peace of mind and relief by knowing that they will always have a writing instrument in Mrs. Solomon's math and science class. Let's keep these kiddos WRITE-ON track.
