How many times did you sit in your math class and think to yourself "I have no idea what the teacher is saying. How in the world am I going to do my homework tonight?" My students need to be able to go back and listen to classroom notes to help with their homework.
My school is a challenging campus, as we draw from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnically diverse groups.
My students love to be able to use any technology that is available to them and are eager to learn new concepts. Mathematics for many of my students is a foreign language that they struggle to master on a daily basis. Although challenging, I am looking for ways to make math more engaging for my students. My goal is for every student to be able to access a computer daily for academic use to master mathematical concepts to programming. My school is working hard to provide many different opportunities for our students to master all of the essential concepts before they promote from our school.
My Project
The atmosphere in my classroom will change greatly with this Acer Chromebook. With the addition of the computers, I will be able to set up smaller group activities to promote more individualized instruction throughout the class period. The students working on the computers will be able to practice current skills that are being learned in class, review current or past skills by watching a video, or even preview concepts that will be learned later by using different websites, such as Khan Academy and the big ideas website that partners with our math book. During this time, students will be practicing not only math concepts, but also learning how to pull important details from videos that will enable them to be better note takers. Many of the other students will be able to work on problem sets and problems dealing with practical applications, and receive more one-on-one instruction from the teacher. The possibilities are endless!
Technology is a must for students to become successful members of society.
The addition of this Acer Chromebook will allow my students to take charge of their mathematical learning by giving them the opportunity to access a multitude of websites, complete their homework and learn note taking skills.
