Have you ever heard of the saying "the dog days of summer"? Well if you have, then you can imagine how our classroom feels during warm weather months. My students come to school everyday and are eager to learn, but get turned off because they have to sit in a smoking hot classroom everyday.
I teach general and special education students in a Title I New York City school.
My students love school and are eager to learn. Unfortunately, sometimes outside temperature makes it harder for my students to concentrate. My classroom is located near the school playground which has no trees nearby. As a result, we have no shade and the sun shines directly in our classroom. I want to help their learning become as effortlessly as possible. A portable air conditioner is one way that would help my students.
My Project
I am requesting a portable air conditioner to help my students keep cool. When it is hot outside, it is hot inside our classroom. It becomes hard to focus for my students. Our classroom has a single fan that can only reach a few students at a time. With a portable air conditioner, my students will be able to work and be productive in a comfortable environment that is conducive to learning. When hot, my students become overheated very easily and start getting very cranky and irritable.
I want my students to be able to enjoy their days in school.
By taking away the issue of having an excessively warm classroom, students would be able to focus and be more productive. When students can focus on their work, instead of on the temperature, they can be more successful and the classroom can be more productive.
