Learning to play a violin or viola can be hard---especially during a pandemic when learning was online. My beginning string students had to learn how to hold their instrument without the benefit of a teacher being able to physically help them. Bad habits and posture were unfortunate results.
Shoulder rests help correct bad habits and poor posture making it easier to play a violin or viola correctly.
Most of my students use school-owned instruments and would like to give them a shoulder rest to use with that instrument.
My students are so excited when they first pick up their instruments, but sometimes complain that it hurts when they have to hold their instruments up for very long. A shoulder rest protects their back and neck muscles and allows them to play for longer periods and be happier when practicing whether at home or at school.
