This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic English language learners that need a few tools to help them stay on track. 100% of them receive free lunch. They come to school full of enthusiasm, but they need even the most basic supplies, like pens, pencils, and notebooks. Many of them work after school to support their families. Still, they participate in a wide-range of extra curricular activities to extend their learning and experiences.
Our school has a great track record of helping these students graduate with success; however, we have limited resources and do not always have the means to purchase essential tools and enhancements for our students to make them successful.
My Project
My students need to conduct research in order to write a graduation-worthy paper for their U.S. history class. They need a variety of texts that address current issues such as representation, systemic injustices, freedoms, and power dynamics.
This collection of books will help my students choose from diverse sources to select engaging topics for their research.
With these selections, they will be able to read from primary and secondary sources from some of the most groundbreaking authors currently working. This will add to my existing classroom library and give the students plenty of options to do their best work. Your support is greatly appreciated!
