Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every year my students score the poorest on the section of the tenth and eleventh grade Science TAKS Test that concentrates on Chemistry concepts. I have devoted more time to these concepts. I have altered the sequence I have taught IPC. I have have done more drill and practice, but the percentages are holding the same. This year I would like to add more labs that deal with basic Chemistry.
My students love to go into the lab. I would really like to have more supplies to help teach Chemistry so that the students do better on this portion of the test. Chemistry must be missing the "wow" factor because a few batteries and slinkies seem to make an impact on basic Physics concepts. I am really looking to put that "wow" into Chemistry.
I teach at a small district in Texas where many of the students do not have the resources to visit hands on museums, nor the ability to buy their own supplies. The kits and supplies that I am requesting will help add interest to Chemistry.
With this proposal I will be adding 6 chemistry kits that will help with endothermic and exothermic reactions, the periodic table, chromatography, chemical equations and more. I have also added a magnetic stirrer and eye wash station, which are more for safety precautions.
