Help Implement an ABA Program for Students with Autism

My students need language builder photo cards, early learning cards, vocabulary photo cards and actions, categories, nouns and opposites language cards.

My Students

A typical day in my class include activities that develop different skills that target the varying needs of my students. Most of my students transition very well from one activity to another but some needs more support. Still, all of them are able to learn in their own unique way.

My students with autism have shown that learning is possible given the right setting and the appropriate materials that are available to them.

They learn enthusiastically as they are presented with tasks that will help them develop skills in functional academic, communication and fine and gross motor. They look forward to these activities as long as engaging materials are present. My students are from grades K-3 in a self-contained classroom. They have varying needs and each one of them have specific goals that we address. Some of them are verbal and some of them are not but all of them need support with improving their communication skills.

My Project

As a teacher of children with autism, I am a firm believer that most of the behavior challenges of this special population stem from communication deficits. They struggle to have themselves "heard" but they do not yet have the ability to express themselves. That is why Applied Behavior Analysis which is currently one of the programs in my class will be a great help in setting the stage for my students to acquire communication skills through language. The language builder photo cards from this project will help in the effective implementation of our ABA program. In this program, a behavior intern assigned in class "pulls-out" a student and target skills such as matching, labeling, identifying and sequencing. These skills are addressed as well as skill compliance of the students.

This project will help us in implementing an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program in my classroom.

ABA has been proven to effectively address the different needs of individuals with autism. Definitely, these materials will greatly make a difference in the lives of my students especially in the areas of communication and behavior.
