Help! I Had to Transfer to a New School Suddenly!

My Students

My students are from the West Philly area and are mostly minority students from low-income families. They are curious, but struggle with rudimentary reading and writing skills, even in first grade. My students are energetic, strong, and possess multiple intelligences. They are creative and lovely! Some goals for these students are: for 100% to be able to write their name, create a loving and cooperative environment, develop confidence in their academic skills, and learn how they already use their education in their everyday lives to survive.

My Project

For this project, picture books will be used twice a day for intentional read alouds. The take-home pouches will enable us to have a system where students take home books to read with their families. Sentence strips are always a material that we use a lot of, whether it be to create our daily schedule, make a job board, or practice our handwriting. A magnetic chart to go along with the sentence strips will allow the work to be done on them to be presented to the whole class with ease. Overall, these items will be used to improve educational opportunities in the classroom!
