FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Gilreath's classroom raised $371

This project is fully funded

In todays world of technology many of our students have gotten away from hands on experiences in math and have replaced them with modern electronics. One of the hardest concepts to grasp in first grade is money, counting it and making change. So many children have difficulty counting money and making change. At home most things are charged or a debit card is used, and they are not exposed to money counting and change making when they shop with their parents. At an early age our students need practice with money. It is important in a classroom to have many types of opportunities to practice counting money. I have created many games on my own but I would like to have more inviting and challenging experiences for my students. Children need exciting and fun ways to learn and reinforce money skills. I feel that by providing complete sets of Problem Solving Money Books, Roll and Learn Money Games, Counting Change Activity Wallets, Solve and Show Math Kits, and a Math Dice Tub, I can provide all my students with the best opportunity for success. I teach first grade at a suburban school in the West San Fernando Valley. I have mixed ability children in my classroom, ranging from highly gifted to students with identified learning disabilities. I need to provide on an ongoing basis differentiated instruction as well as remediation. These math manipulatives will help to give all my students the opportunity to be successful at their level.
