Help Harlem Scholars Master the Graphing Calculator
My students need a Graphing Calculator Viewscreen to allow me to project the screen of my graphing calculator using my overhead projector. We also need some copy paper.

My Students
Today's scholars must compete in a global economy. Technology plays a key role in developing the skill set necessary for the 21st century. I am teaching 25 fabulous motivated students in Harlem the Advanced Placement Statistics curriculum. They will all sit for the AP Exam in May 2011.
My students come from challenging home environments; virtually all are eligible for free lunch.
All would be classified as minorities. Every single one of them plans to graduate from college; for almost all of them, they will be the first generation to do so. My students don't let their current circumstances impact their drive to build a better future for themselves. They are hard working, ambitious and determined.
My Project
The graphing calculator is a required tool for the College Board AP Statistics course. The use of a viewfinder, on which I can project the images displayed on my own graphing calculator onto a large white surface, assists students to keep up with the key strokes and check their own screens for accuracy. This tool helps keep the lesson on track and greatly diminishes the need for individualized trouble shooting. I've borrowed this equipment from colleagues and am certain that regular access to this teaching tool would expedite my lessons, thereby allowing for more time to discuss rich issues rather than address individual calculator concerns.
Additionally, we need some paper to copy handouts since the school has no funding to supply teachers with any paper for copies of any materials. I'd like to be able to share supplemental exercises and reference materials with the students beyond their textbook.
This visual aid would help bring my Harlem classroom more in line with classrooms in the wealthier suburbs.
My students deserve to have access to the same quality resources as their peers and competitors. Please help me deliver better lessons via the utilization of this time saving educational tool.
