My Students

My students are hard-working scholars who have opted to take my Advanced Placement Statistics course. These students in our college-preparatory public high school located in Harlem plan to attend and graduate from college (most of them as the first generation in their family to do so) and pursue a career in medicine, engineering, business, psychology, criminology, social work, teaching, and more.

These students have big plans for their own lives and refuse to let their zip code dictate the trajectory of their lives.

They realize that education is their key to a better life, and they are willing to prioritize their education. Although in most cases, my students' family situations are currently challenging and they are living well below the poverty level. They realize that a solid education is a key to financial independence and career success.

My Project

We are about to enter take fall semester final exams and enter the spring semester. The Advanced Placement classes are getting real! At this point, we have covered at least half of the content in the AP Statistics course and it is imperative that students keep sharp on all topics - current and past.

In addition to the spiraling that is incorporated into my lessons, it is essential for student success that they practice both current and past topics on their own.

These flashcard sets are the perfect tool to help students do this. The flashcards include over 500 simulated AP questions with the question on the front and the correct response on the back. Students can use these questions and time themselves to ascertain their own strengths and areas for improvement. The are laminated with a small hole in the corner and a round key ring is included so that students can travel with just those flashcards that they plan to use at any given time. The format is portable and very functional. I've used these with great successes for many years. The students love them. I currently have 7 boxes of the flashcards. This project will complete the class set of 18 by obtaining 11 more.

The hand sanitizer is intended to keep us healthy during flu season. We have a lot of material to cover and it is essential that students are able to be present in class. The hand sanitizer will help to keep us all germ free. We have no time to be sick!
