This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are resilient and determined and many of them overcome challenges every day trying to succeed. They love to learn and they inspire us to provide them with the best opportunities possible. Many of our students come from all over the city just to attend our school. They represent the diversity of our city ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically. They also represent a wide range of academic abilities from special education to English language learners to gifted students and we are challenged with meeting all of their learning and emotional needs.

My Project

The space we are envisioning will allow students to have a safe, nurturing, and fun classroom to spend time in on campus. Through the resources provided in this project we will be able to create a safe space that addresses the social and emotional needs of our students. With many of our students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, they often have obstacles that can interfere with their education. By helping students overcome these barriers we assure that they are able to focus more on their future education and careers.

The items listed in this project will add a great deal of comfort and fun to this future space.

The project classroom will be used for individual and group therapy sessions in order to meet our students' emotional needs. Similarly, the space will be open during free times so students can socialize safely. We will also be collaborating with the after-school program to reach even more students with this project.

Some of the items we are requesting, such as couch pillows and blankets, will help to make this space more inviting for our students and allow them to feel safe and comfortable in this room. We are also asking for various art supplies (coloring books and markers) in order to allow our students to spend some time expressing their creativity and taking the time to be calm and relax during the day. The board games will be used for similar reasons as well as to promote friendships and social skills. Lastly, the motivational posters will allow for the room to be more lively and promote positive messages to our students.
