My Students
My kindergarten class is an amazing group of diverse learners. This San Francisco classroom is an inclusion class, meaning some of the students have special needs. My goal as their teacher is to differentiate instruction, often with additional resources, to meet their needs. As a second year teacher, my classroom supplies and resources are not what they should be, especially to support the unique needs in my classroom.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to bring additional resources to my unique group of students.
I want to increase their access to technology, STEM, diverse books, tools for writing, and so much more. I am grateful for DonorsChoose.org for giving my classroom the opportunity to grow and learn beyond what I can give them.
My Project
As a second year teacher, my library of classroom books is small. I am slowly collecting books that I can read aloud to my students that carry important messages. These books need to teach my students about tolerance, responsibility, friendship, and all the other qualities it takes to grow into caring, active members of our community. Our school serves a high population of students with special needs, and I highly emphasis disability awareness and tolerance in my classroom. Several of the books I have put in this project are about understanding disabilities and differences, so that I can help my students become more inclusive to all their peers.
All of these books will support our curriculum in reader's workshop, social/emotional growth, and my classroom emphasis on disability awareness and tolerance.
There is no limit to the affect that a great book can have on a child. I have hand picked each of these books because of the message they carry. The long term impact they can have on my students, and many more students to come, cannot be measured.
