My Project
My 5th grade class is hoping to get the chance to read the book "Out of My Mind." This is a novel written for elementary age students, and tells a realistic story of how other students make assumptions and prejudices about a girl with a disability. In my 5th grade class, we read novels as a whole group and while reading each students holds a copy of the book and follows along or reads aloud for the class. I then store these book after we read it as a class and use them year after year. I am really hoping to add this novel to our yearly reads and I would love to be able to give my students a copy to follow along with as we read. I think by using this book in the classroom, a great message will be sent to the students as we read, and great discussions will come from it.
