This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In today's world of accelerating technology, it is crucial that my students have access and exposure to a model of education that they will need to succeed! Our ancient computers can't compete with the fast-paced evolution of the digital world!

We are a Title 1, inner city school located in Connecticut.

My students have a passion for new knowledge and the latest computer technology. Many of my students are English language learners and 100% of the student population receives free/reduced lunches. Most of my students' only exposure to the digital world is within the walls of our school. I do my best, within my own budget, to give my students exposure to the growing digital world, but I can't keep up with it! My students are always grateful for what I am able to provide for them, but I know that they deserve more than that!

My Project

With budget cuts and restraints, our school seems to be in the age of the dinosaurs when it comes to technology! I want every student to leave, going into high school, with an appreciation of music! I want my students to explore sound creation and design their own, unique and new, instruments! This 3-D printer will open up a world of creativity for my students and allow them to explore a corner of music that we have rarely ventured! We have created our own "homemade" instruments before, but to expose them to the technical and mathematical aspect of it would be amazing! With constraints to supply budgets, I don't have the materials available to expose every child to the wonders of music that resonates with each of them individually. With 3-D designs available, my students can explore this technical side of music!

Not everyone grows up to be a famous musician, but everyone grows up listening and loving music!

I want to help my students create a deeper understanding and a greater connection with music through the process of designing and creating musical instruments!
