Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are middle schoolers at a Title I school in New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes. They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education.

My students are active and enthusiastic.

They are motivated and eager to do well. They want to learn and are constantly seeking opportunities to take ownership of their learning.

Our school is in a high needs and high poverty area in which most children are on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs. My students work hard despite the challenges they face. Many students stay after school, participate in after-school clubs and activities and are always striving to be, and do, better for themselves and for others.

My Project

This equipment will help build the confidence of our girl runners and help them develop lifelong skills in managing stress through fitness. These girls will not only have better self-esteem, but they will become stronger and more adept at running!

My students want to be more active to improve their mental and physical health and just need better access to equipment.

Participation in exercise and sports has a large impact on promoting healthy outcomes. Regular exercise and physical activity promote strong muscles and bones. This equipment will increase their access to movement and staying fit, both physically and mentally. These materials will not only help us work out, but will help us stay safe in the process. The paper towels and cleaning sprays will make sure that we are wiping down our equipment after use. The journals will help us keep track of our workouts.

At the end of the day, we want students to feel good about themselves and increase their physical activity level. These resources will help us do that.
