My Project
As we examined some of the award-winning online student newspapers from around the country, we noticed not only the quality of their writing but also the quality of their images. We all judge a story by its featured photo, and the student journalists at GHS have a story to tell. A story that is unique. But we need help making sure our stories are heard and that others can clearly see our GHS community in focus (couldn't resist a good photography pun).
Adding DSLR cameras to our journalism class is not simply about taking better pictures.
As part of our exploration of online news sources, we've discussed how technology has changed our media. We are no longer a print-driven culture. To effectively reach our student community and those outside it, we must consider not only our written rhetoric but also our digital rhetorical choices. A picture really is worth a thousand words, especially if it is a quality image. We have relied on students' cell phones to capture the images of our community. Adding quality cameras to our classroom would greatly improve how we capture and present our students' voices to the world.
