This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I will be teaching 1st Grade ESL students this year. My littles will need reading, writing and math intervention, especially after the gap that has occurred due to the pandemic. My class consists of Spanish, Bangla and Chinese speaking students whose parents want nothing more than to see them succeed in learning a new language, learning more content and receiving the support they need.
It is so difficult to meet with my littles on the floor for small group intervention.
They have to sit somewhere between 15-20 minutes while we all read, work through math problems and scaffold lessons together. My students need a kidney table for small groups to allow them to have a more comfortable time during their small group instruction. I want their numbing legs to be the last thing they think about when working in school.

My Project
Students need a place where they can feel comfortable to be challenged and learn effectively. Students who need extra support or need to be challenged further will need to stay on the floor area to meet in a small group even longer.
When we sit on the floor for that amount of time for small group instruction, the students are not very comfortable.
Having a kidney table can allow me to meet with 3-4 students, at the appropriate distance, while giving them their own little space to work independently or as a small group. Students can easily have access to me if they need support and they can also turn and talk to their peers who will be sitting beside them. Please help by donating anything you can to my project.
