My Project
Welcome to speech and language therapy. Our school is a Title I public school. As you know, many NYC schools are extremely underfunded and lack proper resources. Most of the current furniture in our room is not conducive to learning, and much of it is outdated. Our students deserve to walk into our therapy room and feel comfortable.
Research shows that many aspects of your therapy room environment can affect student motivation.
Students who are more motivated, put more effort into learning activities (Ambrose, 2010). Our students struggle with many aspects of learning such as reading comprehension, written language, and expressive communication. Having a functional environment would make all the difference in their focus and attention.
The tables will be used to hold therapy sessions for students. This will be more conducive to group work and discussions vs. individual moving desks which tend to be distracting. The desk and rolling chairs will be used as a form of flexible seating. We will add a computer station onto the table so that students can sit individually should they require it. Our current room does not have adequate storage for therapy materials and supplies. The metal cabinet will be used to hold bulk items and various supplies so that they are not distracting to our students. In addition, the shelves will hold workbooks and themed reading books so they can easily be accessed for everyday use.
Your donation would help us create an optimal learning space, and will help them thrive. After almost three years of uncertainty, we hope to create a therapy room that provides stability and comfort.
