Help Fund Our Learning! Camden Students Love Resources!
-My students need Reading and Math center activity games to enhance their learning.
-My second graders would love games for when they are stuck inside for indoor recess.
8:15 the day begins.
Teacher: "Class, Class!" Students: "Yes, Yes!"
17 enthusiastic second graders sit upright with "peanut butter" folded hands, waiting eagerly for their next direction.
These students hail from the heart of Camden, NJ and are the hardest working, most compassionate students I have ever met.
Just by looking at their bright faces and crisp uniforms you would never know that they come from such a rough neighborhood. They are sweet, caring, and love to learn.
Every day I am greeted with exciting stories about books they read last night, or a connection they made to something we are learning in class. "Miss there is a road runner in my book! Just like the story we were reading!" was the story I heard this morning before we even entered the classroom. "Miss I'm in the 100 club!!!" another student yelled, referring to their number of 15-minute reading steps.
Their love for learning does not stop with reading. Math, science, social studies, art, music, PE - they love it all. Children are often described as sponges. This is especially true for this group of amazing individuals.
My Project
My DonorsChoose wish list consists of three types of materials.
The first are tools that will help with their reading skills. I chose center kits that will enhance their understanding of skills taught in class. Language Arts centers are three stations that incorporate independent reading, skills taught in class, and individualize skills on each students' level. These center kits will be used to enforce these second grade skills, which in turn can help all students reach grade level by the end of the year.
The second set of items are math center kits. Like the Language Arts centers, Math centers are used to supplement in class instruction as well as review older skills to reinforce understanding.
The third category are games that will by used for the times we are stuck inside for indoor recess due to inclement weather. These times may seem like just play, but are imperative for developing social skills, problem solving, communication, and positive peer relationships.
These students truly deserve bountiful resources.
Donations for this project will give underprivileged students the opportunity to have meaningful, hands-on, learning experiences. It will also give them the chance to play and be kids in a safe environment. If this project is funded, it will enhance the lives and learning of this special group of amazing students.
