My students need to be able to have access to theses essential learning workbooks and textsbooks in order to further their understanding of the STEM field for success.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students at EPLA come from a high poverty area in the border city of El Paso, Texas. Many of them come from predominantly single-parent households. Some of my students stay with relatives during the week in order to attend school and travel back to Juarez, Mexico on weekends to be with their parents.
Although they face many obstacles on a daily basis that doesn't take away from the fact that they show up everyday with beautiful smiles, wanting to change their reality and future.
Since the beginning of the school year we have seen some amazing growth from our students. They have recently taken the mid-year MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) test and some students have grown up to two grade levels in these past few months. Our goal is to have students recognize that attending and graduating from a four-year college can be a reality regardless of their economical background.
My Project
My 8th graders currently have no access to a science course textbook or workbooks. Many of the reference books we use now in place of a course textbook are outdated and do not contain accurate scientific information or lack sufficient details to aid in full comprehension of the standards.
In order to support the Texas Standards, our classroom library needs complex textbook set to use a reference to standards being covered.
I plan to execute a full routine that includes independent reading of the chapter prior to beginning the lesson. I will be able to use the textbook as supplemental material to the lesson being taught.
In addition to the course textbook, I humbly ask for one classroom copy of the workbooks in order to incorporate these into my weekly lesson plans. I'd like to kickstart the 2018-2019 academic school year with worksheets found in the workbooks that can be easily identified into their science interactive notebooks. I will make sure to run the necessary copies of worksheets being covered at the time.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
