Help Fuel My School By Supporting Classroom Science Center

My students need essential tools such as pictures, models, specimens, and collections to help them feel like real scientists making real scientific discoveries.

My Students

My classroom is filled with 23 bright, talented eager learners who come to school prepared to soak in the curriculum. However, they are at a disadvantage when it comes to fully grasping the science core. Our classroom lacks essential tools and visuals needed to make science real and meaningful.

I am a second grade teacher.

The families in our neighborhood are middle to low income. I teach in an amazing community. Parents are very involved in their child's education. Currently, I have one parent helper every day of the week. They come in to work with students in small groups. Often the parents work on review activities to help struggling students. I also use my parents as small group leaders to challenge or enrich learning. I am very proud of my parents for taking time out of their schedule to help prepare my bright, young students. I would use the folder activities in small groups with the parent helpers.

My Project

I am requesting comprehensive science curriculum from the Lakeshore Learning Store. I will use these materials in small group centers. The materials I am requesting include: exciting experiments, high-interest science writing projects, investigative tools, specimens, and collections. They all relate to the second grade common core areas of: rocks, weather, plants, insects, animals, and the solar system. These exciting materials and visual aids will engage students. All of the materials are organized by subject matter.

Your donation will make an amazing difference in our science core. The purposeful, hands-on materials will make learning meaningful. Rather then listening to me explain the subject matter while students sit at their desks and take notes, students will take control of their own learning. I firmly believe students learn by doing rather then hearing. Please help me to make this possible for the students in my classroom.
