Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember when you were in science class using the microscopes? You had to aim the mirror just right to catch the reflection of the light.
My students are 6th graders that live in a low-income neighborhood.
Around 95% of our students in the school receive free lunch. In our school, 6th grade is departmentalized, so I see all of the 6th graders everyday. My 120 6th graders are all energetic, full of character and ready to learn about Science.
My Project
I am requesting games for science. Children like to play games, so why not have them be educational too. They enjoy them. The games help them learn that topics are not just taught out of a book, but it can be fun too. The microscopes I am requesting are to be used for the whole class. It will make it easier so that I can show the students what they are looking for on a slide. this will facilitate their assignment. We live in the 21st century digital is the way to go. The photos I am requesting are to be used to reinforce the words on my word wall.
Many times science is given the back burner.
Now with the common core coming out in Illinois, it is important that our students have the necessary supplies to meet those standards. You can make a difference in bringing back science to the classroom and keeping the students up to date with the latest technology.
