This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Student: "I like Polar Bears! Let's help them!"
Me: "Great, why do they need our help?"
Student: "I dunno."
My class needs a way to connect with the Arctic so that we can focus on helping spread the word about Global Climate Change and the effect it has on Polar Bear populations!
My students are highly diverse, extremely economically and socially challenged kids from a neighborhood in NE Denver.
Our school works hard to connect our lessons to international ideas and concepts that help connect these kids to the world around them, and inspire them to make a true difference in the world.
My Project
I am requesting books and movies about the Arctic and climate change, all appropriate for First Grade learners, to help expose my students to the environment and issues of the Arctic. They have chosen to help Polar Bears as our project, which I want to honor, but they don't really know anything about these amazing creatures, the incredible place they live, or the challenges thye face.
I believe that with these resources: beautiful books for our classroom, educational and inspirational videos that will allow students to make deeper connections to the issues, and books about Polar Bears for each student to share with their families, our class will be able to design a project where we can help educate our community and raise funds to help make a difference for the Polar Bears' future.
