How often do you print documents for work, school, or daily life? Technology has become thoroughly embedded in everything we do. As a teacher, I believe it is important for our students to get acquainted early on with the process of working with a computer and printer as educational tools.
In our first grade Integrated Co-Teaching class, we have 30 wonderful students!
Of these 30 youngsters, 40% of them are special education students with their own Individualized Education Plans, receiving related services such as Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Counseling, and SETSS.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds with varying degrees of resources and support at home. While my general education co-teacher and I try to make learning as fun and hands on as possible, it would help our students to have a working printer in the classroom.
My Project
We are hoping to receive this All-In-One Brother printer that scans, copies, and prints, as well as two toner cartridges to keep it up and running for the year. Our students will be able to see their work come to life when they print out their stories, poems, and information books in Writing Workshop.
Students will also learn more about the publishing process through the use of a printer! Our students will be able to watch their work go from a first draft on paper, to editing and revising, then typing their work, and finally printing it out to display for all to see. Students will be able to admire the hard work it took to develop their writing from the beginning to the end. The printer will also give them a sense of excitement about publishing and printing, as well as introduce them to important computer skills that they will use and develop for years to come.
This project has the potential to excite and enrich the writing lives of our students.
Our 30 scholars will be able to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride as they take their writing to the next level! Printing will afford our students the important experience of working with computers and seeing the product of hard work. We are looking forward to getting a printer in the classroom for all to use! Thank you for your help and support!
