This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade in a Title I inner city school. My students are burgeoning readers and writers. They love writing in different genres including personal narratives and poetry.
My classroom has two computers and one very old printer. The printer is unreliable and seems to give out just when we need it the most. With drastic cuts to the education budget, a new printer is not in the budget.
My students need a reliable printer that would allow them to type their stories and print them out. The children have expressed a desire to print out individual stories to make into 'books', but they would also like to create a whole class anthology, in which each student would contribute a page. We could then compile their writing into one class book. During the Spring, the students would be able to publish a book of poems in the same manner.
