Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach chemistry to a diverse group of artistic students at a Title I visual and performing arts school in downtown Los Angeles. Students come to our school from all over the city to our public high school to receive a top notch education in both academics and their chosen art form (music, dance, visual or theater) and go on to study at some of the top academic colleges and art schools across the country. When my students start reading about all of the chemicals they come into contact with every day, they are surprised, curious, and eager to learn more!
I am always looking for ways to motivate my students in my classroom with innovative and exciting learning opportunities.
My Project
The 2 requested Chromebooks will be put to good use in my classroom and will complete my class set I have been building over the last 12 months. I have been redesigning my chemistry curriculum to be aligned with NGSS and the topics are much more engaging, real-life, and work perfectly with Chromebooks.
In my class, students will use the requested Chromebooks to read articles about environmental issues such as alternative energy and water contamination, research for in-class debates, and develop projects through Google about ideal waste management programs and chemistry games related to the environment.
Additionally, the Chromebooks allow us to integrate art into our classroom, an essential piece with our arts high school. With the Chromebooks, students will design videos, research science topics to turn into visual arts pieces and find inspiration for the application of art into our project-based learning. These topics and opportunity in my classroom with the Chromebooks will allow my students to get create and integrate STEM with the arts.
I am trying to build a classroom set of Chromebooks for my students and this project will get me to my goal of 20 Chromebooks in my classroom. Thank you for your consideration to our amazing classroom.
