This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Make a difference by helping my students learn to identify and express their feelings in a healthy way while learning emotional regulation skills to help themselves cope through challenges. This is my classroom's first year at my school and we are building our room from the ground up.

The purpose of my room is to help students that struggle with significant behavioral concerns learn skills and tools they can utilize to help them self-regulate and manage their emotions in a general education classroom independently.

Because we are a first-year classroom, we are in need of growing our classroom and our inventory of calming and emotional regulation tool set for our students to learn to use on their own. The variety of fidget and sensory tools would help each student find what tools work best for them. The cubbies would help our students to have an individual space to put their personal belongings in during the school day. We are currently using the Spot emotion curriculum to help teach our students about their emotions. Having the complete set of books, curriculum, activities, and tools would help us have more resources to teach and practice with our kids than what we currently are using. The quiet marble, maze, and stretchy fidgets would help give our students the tools to quietly fidget and concentrate on their work in their seats while not distracting others. Many of our students have a sensory need, which the jelly fish, bubble sensory, doodle board, and weighted stuffed animals would help to meet and de-escalate our students when they are upset. New headphones would be more effective in cancelling out loud emotions from other students. The prizes would help positively motivate and reinforce excellent behaviors from our students throughout the week that they could work for and earn.
