Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is working towards a schoolwide goal of full implementation of the PBIS behavior management techniques to encourage scholars to make responsible choices and take responsibility for their actions. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support
My school is located between two large housing developments.
A large percentage of the school's population come from low income homes where parents are struggling to support their families. Many are from single parent or English as a second language homes. The economic hardships that these families are faced with have an effect on my students and their learning experiences. The economic hardships also effect student behavior. In addition negative observations that children are exposed to in their surroundings have an effect not only on their learning but also on behaviors. It is our belief that all children can effectively be taught appropriate behaviors. Our students are rewarded for positive behaviors. Coming to school on time, wearing school uniform, following rules are just examples of positive behaviors that are fostered in our building. Students receive scholar dollars for positive behaviors. They can spend scholar dollars in the school store.
My Project
Students visit the store at least once a week to purchase items with their scholar dollars. The store is made up of donations from parents and teachers in our building. Many times students are overjoyed and leave with a bike. Several times students walk away disappointed or unhappy that the store does not have something that they wish to purchase. When the stuffed animals like bean bag monkeys, neon dogs, jungle animal assortment, snacks like ring pops, and stationary like pens, notepads and erasers listed are available in the store, scholars will be more excited to visit the store. In return student behavior will improve because scholars will want to earn additional scholar dollars to purchase new items in the store.
The donations for this project will improve the school store because student excitement will grow as they see the new items available to them.
Scholar behavior will improve because they will work harder to earn the scholar dollars used for purchasing school store items.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
