This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am privileged to have a hard working groups of students that love to learn. As a literacy intervention teacher I work primarily with struggling readers in small groups. Many of my students are English Language Learners; some are student with disabilities. They all have a passion for persisting through challenges when it comes to building skills for successful reading.

My students have built a beautiful community of learners that are not afraid to take risks, make mistakes and celebrate each other successes.

Unfortunately, many of my students struggle in their classroom setting. As a service provider, they look forward to our small group time where I can meet their individual needs and build literacy skills that will last a lifetime.

My Project

My goal is to create a place where my students have a variety of tools they can use to be successful in reading. My students really struggle in their classes. They see me in small groups of 6 or less. I want them to be able to learn how to use these tools and activities to build on their literacy skills and take them into their classroom to help support them in their general education or special education setting.

Just like a carpenter needs the right tools to get the job done, so do young learners in order to have success in literacy.

Unfortunately, my students have known failure in the classroom, but in my room they feel empowered. They see mistake as proof that they are trying and grow from them. I want the to continue to be encouraged as they use they materials to learn new skills for reading and writing.
