My Students

"It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations.." Katherine Patterson. I have a dream of filling my classroom with books that my students will be excited to read. I want them to explore a love of books

I teach a group of enthusiastic third graders at a low income suburban school.

Many students do not have reading material at home, nor do they have a way to get to the local library to check out books. My classroom and the school library, are the only places they can be exposed to literature.

My Project

These chapter books will give the students options when choosing stories during independent reading time. They will learn to love to read by exploring new worlds and fun characters. I want to see students eager to choose a new book; excited to learn more about a character by reading a series, or just laughing out loud at the funny antics of the storyline.

I am a first year teacher with limited resources.

My classroom library has a few picture books, but the shelves are nearly bare. I want to be able to give the students choices when picking out their books. Chapter books are an essential part of developing a love for reading, exploring characterization, and story arcs. Please help me fill my shelves.
