This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We service middle schoolers in the South Bronx. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, residing in one of the most underserved districts in our city. They are bright, charismatic, kind, and energetic children who have the drive and passion to succeed. However, they are often faced with various obstacles like homelessness, malnutrition, mental illness, loss, abuse, and many other situations our children should not go through.
Every day they make it to school and our goal is to make it a wonderful experience.
Our children are 11-15 years-old and many have the wisdom of individuals much older. Our children are gifted, they are talented, and need the resources to excel and enhance their skills. Our children have so many extraordinary ideas and my job is to ensure they come to life!
My Project
I am asking for your assistance in bringing healthier snack options to our kids. They are generally consuming chips and candy for breakfast and lunch as they feel school lunch is not sufficient - which sometimes is the case. Nonetheless, helping bring them some healthy options steering away from hot fries is ideal!
I have included snacks with high protein and lower sugar/sodium.
Please support our classroom in getting them into healthier habits while also feeding them when oftentimes their only meals are in school. We are a title 1 school which means the majority of our kids are at or below poverty level. Our families need any assistance we can provide and thank you for your support!
