Help Fantastic First Graders Become Spectacular Scientists
My students need science discovery kits, safety goggles, magnifiers, and other basic science supplies to give them the opportunity to conduct scientific investigations.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Science is one of my students favorite times of the day and they get even more excited when I tell them it's time to do a science investigation. I would love to be able to excite my students through hands-on activities.
I teach in a high need community and many of the students at my school are eligible for free or reduced lunch; however, my students love to learn and are excited by hands-on activities.
They love to learn about the world around them and thrive when given the opportunity to experiment, investigate and discover for themselves.
My Project
I am requesting resources that will allow my students to conduct science investigations accurately and safely. Right now, my class has to share 3 magnifying glasses. We have to mix and investigate liquids in plastic cups, and we all have to measure using a single set of measuring cups. We do not have any eye droppers and have to estimate as we drip water from a cup. It is next to impossible to demonstrate to my students the importance of accuracy, precision and thoroughness when these are the materials we have to work with.
These science materials will inspire my first graders and help them feel like real scientists as we investigate the world around us.
First grade is a wonderful age where children are eager to learn and your donation will help make sure my students have that opportunity.
